Elements System

Praxis doesn’t make perfect, only perfect praxis makes perfect
Riccardo Wildties

We are passionate about the Kinbaku we do. Therefore, we aim to share our experiences and to make our knowledge available to others. As a couple tying together for more than 5 years now, we want to address some specific points in our teaching:

  • Kinbaku is about creating a shared experience between two people – it is not just about techniques
  • Hence, mastering technique is essential to let go of it and create an emotional scene
  • Both partners in ropes – Rigger and Rope-bottom – have an active role to create the scene, there is no „passive“ partner

Therefore as a basic principle of our teaching we aim to teach both partners in rope equally – with complementary content. We teach the Riggers to better tie and the Rope-bottoms to better experience the tying.
We offer a system to learn the necessary technical and non-technical principles quickly and consecutively building on each other. For this we have developed a method to combine technique and non-technique, theory and practice in catchy exercises for both partners in ropes. Our goal is to give you the best tools for your play.

Our experience from previous professions, as a lawyer, project managers, executive managers as much as our studies in martial art and somatic practices feed into our system to ensure you progress quickly. Although the most important principle we cannot implement for you: Practice a lot yourself!

For Beginners: Discover Kinbaku

Complete beginners start with our weekend-workshop “From Zero to Patterns and Play.” In this workshop, you will the learn general technical and non-technical principles of Kinbaku, as well as simple but effective patterns, including first harnesses for upper body and legs. Above all, you learn to apply these patterns to create a shared experience in your erotic play. Right from the beginning, we address both partners who take on active, albeit different, roles. On the bottom’s side, we introduce the foundational skills of placing the attention to the body and strengthening your own core. We will emphasis movement, control, as well as (non-verbal) communication, emotional and physical limits, as well as intention-based consent. After this workshop you are set to apply the learned principles and techniques in private, or at our weekly Jam.

For those, who are curious what this is all about, those who like to learn about the history Japanese inspired bondage or for those who just want to try out their first tie or desire to ask questions, we offer an “Introduction Evening” once a month.

Also, we can offer a very condensed version of our beginners workshop, called „Impact and Intimacy“, e.g. for festivals or as introduction to new communities. Get in touch if you would like us to introduce this practice to your local community or event!

Elements of Seme-nawa

We are students of Kinbaku LuXuria in the art of Seme-nawa by Akira Naka. We have developed our own interpretation of the style based upon that. And this is what we teach exclusively to our students above the beginners level. We address couples who have a specific interest in this style and who are willing to go deep with it. For us it is essential to teach Seme-nawa as a holistic system, covering technique and non-technique, body and mind, theory and practice, history and contemporary developments, elements for Riggers and for Rope-bottoms.

As teaching is for us about guiding and curating through complex matter, we structured the shapeless content-matter into a system of elements, inspired both by the classical Western / Platonic / Alchemic system and the Japanese „Godai“. Like Alchemy, Kinbaku is transformative practice*. It’s about initiating inner processes, developing oneself, changing something to the positive. The rope becomes a kind of philosopher’s stone. In the rope, with the rope, you cannot hide – at least not, when you approach Seme-nawa with honesty. It just might change you, and your relationship forever.

We teach the Elements of Seme-nawa in bi-weekly evening classes, 6 classes for every level. The classes are designed in such a way that a specific position is developed in each unit, giving the opportunity for the Riggers to practice the principles and patterns as well as for the Rope-bottoms to develop the relevant somatic skills. The units are built on each other, creating an arc of learning over the whole course. To ensure intimacy and learning progress, we limit classes to maximum five couples and do not allow drop ins for single lessons.

Intermediate Level

Earth

The first level for intermediate students – and the entry level in our teachings in Seme-nawa is Earth. In this course, we lay out the fundamentals and teach the most basic techniques such as a stable box-tie (Takate-kote), leg ties as well as first semi-suspensions and suspensions, forming the bodies into S-shape and Kata-ashi positions. On the non-technical side we cover Centering & Grounding, Placement of Attention, Communication, and Body Handling. In Earth, both partners are gaining confidence in their erotic bondage.

Water

When a feeling of security is gained in the Earth element and first routines are established, we can slowly raise up. In the element Water we becoming more fluid in (semi)-suspensions. Here we also deepen the aesthetic principles of our style. Technically we will deepen the understanding of S-shape and Kata-ashi positions. Riggers start to use their intention to create a scene, using tools of space (Ma-ai) and timing. Rope-bottoms learn feeling and communicating their limits, staying connected to themselves and their Riggers whilst relaxing into the impact and the force of gravity without giving up the sense of their boundaries.
In Water, both partners become more flexible and adaptable in Seme-nawa.

Advanced Level

Fire

In the element of Fire, the first level for advanced students, we use the Gyaku-ebi positions to teach techniques that have a greater effect on the somatic body of the person in ropes. We focus on intention and emotion. Whilst Riggers gain routine in technically more difficult suspensions with complex line management, Rope-bottoms learn to grow stamina in challenging positions as well as understand how to distinguish between „good“ and „bad“ pain and how to deal with it.
In Fire, both partners becoming more aware of their intentions in Seme-nawa whilst adding intensity to their play with power and surrender.

Air

In the element Air, as the last level for the most advanced students, we are working on the basis of the knowledge learned thus far, with technically more complex positions and the transitions between them. For Riggers we address flow and dynamics, but also advanced tools for how to develop a scene and how to create individual aesthetics. The Rope-bottoms develop more personal and playful attitude towards seme-nawa and their personal expression and communication style.
In Air, both partners are becoming free from the taught patterns or concepts and start exploring their personal learning edge.

Elements of Earth and Water, with a spice of Fire are also offered as a Weekend Workshop „Introduction to Seme-nawa“, either as retreat in Berlin or as an offer for communities outside of our home base.

If you are already advanced, want to “change” from other styles, or are generally unsure, come talk to us, so we can decide together what is the right level for you to get started.

For all levels: Essentials

There is a fifth element – the ether, the void, the quintessence of all. In the essentials the basis is conveyed, the substance from which everything is made. These are all other workshops in which special basics are taught. A special focus is on a deeper understanding „Kinbaku LuXuria Takate-kote“, where we un-cover many details and several facets of this for our style most important upper body harness. Also, the workshop on „Tie-offs on bamboo“ delivers essential matter to master our style.
The essentials are for all levels above beginners. Even when you are very advanced, we will find ways to challenge you and give you new inspiration.

*You are invited to discuss the principles of alchemy and the mystery of transmutation over a glass of wine, after the workshops!
