All about the Gote
The Iconic Hands-Behind-the-Back Tie (1-Day Workshop)
In this One-day Intensive we invite you for an in-depth exploration of one of the most essential, fascinating, symbolic and iconic ties in traditional Japanese rope bondage: the stemless Gote (TK). We guide you step-by-step toward building a solid, adaptive Gote, refining structure, tension, and body awareness — while learning to respond to your partner’s body shape, energy, and your own intention.
For whom is it?
This workshop is for people who already have an initial experience in Japanese-inspired rope bondage, have learned some initial basics / harnesses, and want to develop their knowledge of a proper stemless Gote to approach suspensions with torsion load.
For your role as rigger to know the basics of Japanese rope bondage, such as non-collapsing ties, cinge, counter tension, or friction and for your role as being tied, general awareness in ropes and being able to attend to their body and communicate potential issues in the near time.
This is a practical workshop: you will tie and/or get tied a lot. Role switching is not mandatory, but highly encouraged for this workshop.
For riggers…
- getting familiar with the construction principles of a stemless 2 rope Gote
- quickly building up solid technical skills by repeating and learning the same principles from different perspectives
- getting enabled for use of this Gote in semi- and full suspensions with torsion load
- mastering creative adaptions of the 3rd rope with intention and aesthetics
- focusing on contact, intimacy and eroticism whilst mastering techniques
For rope bottoms…
- bringing attention to your body, to your feelings and sensations
- getting familiar with a rope impact and learning to enjoy it
- developing a feeling of your emotional and physical limits and positively communicating them
- unlearning common myths about being a rope bottom
- understanding your responsibility in ropes
Content
We will build on the already learned basics to develop a very practical approach to master your first proper stemless Gote. In the second part we will expand on the basic pattern and learn how to add more ropes to tie the upper body / chest of your partner properly according to your intentions.
History & philosophy * The proper sitting position * Bondage without rope: positioning the arms * Safety: avoiding nerve damage * Simple Hojo-Jutsu Ties * Break down of a simple stemless Gote: Function and technique of 1st and 2nd rope * Construction principles & variants of third rope * Attaching Tsuri-lines * Control and Flow
On the bottom’s side, we introduce tools directing your attention to your body to develop a feeling of safety from within when tied in Gote
Warm and cozy place, superfriendly, welcoming and caring people, great workshops where you learn a lot more about Kinbaku than just patterns. If you wanna study Naka Style / Semenawa in Berlin, this is the place to be. Highly recommended also for bottoms!

Amazing workshops with an excellent team and impeccable teaching capacities. I have learnt a lot from all of my visits to the studio and definitely recommend them to anyone who is serious about ropes. I would also like to add that this space, including their jam, was so far one of the most queer and women* friendly open rope spaces in Berlin.

A beautiful place and beautiful people, I always had deep experiences with them and the quality of teaching is really high. What I had during the workshops and the meeting there was not only techniques teaching but also the possibility to live my emotions and share them without feeling any kind of shame or feeling judged. Highly recommend for any kind of level. See you there!

In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, you get to improve your rope skills. The teaching is very well balanced between technique, feeling, body awareness, safety and playfulness. Lessons are well structured and there is even a handout to remember keypoints and harnesses 🙂 To sum up, you'll learn loads and have fun at the same time - highly recommend it.

A beautiful and special place. The workshops at Discover Kinbaku are no shallow or chaotic fast food, but well thought-of concepts with a learning theory behind it, which doesn't only cover knots and patterns, but e.g. also interpersonal dynamics, communication and the side of the rope bottoms. All in a respectful, welcoming and open atmosphere, and the team has a lot of valuable experience to share. Would love to attend more classes in the future!
