Alexander Ma

Alexander is a researcher, philosopher, and embodiment activist, been fascinated by Japanese history and culture for a long time. Studying Japanese Martial Arts since his teenage years, he graduated as a black belt in Seishinkai Aikido, a practice that still informs much of his approach to presence, touch, connection, and power.

He is also a scientist and member of an exclusive club of rope nerds that hold a PhD.

Already in a young age, he fantasized about capturing women – but his rope journey was bumpy. Kinbaku came late to his  BDSM practice, as it was presented in the late 1990ies as external and mechanic. Only in on New Year's Day Morning 2008, after witnessing a private session, he first time understood that in rope bondage there can be a wonderful connection between two people. Captivated - it still took 4 more years before Natasha became his partner in life and ropes, and his practice intensified.

A turning point was in 2015 the introduction into the Semenawa of Akira Naka by Scot Kinbaku and his partner Namarie, a style that fascinated Alexander in philosophy and expression and since then has not let go. Consequently, Alexander intensively studied the style with Riccardo Wildties, one of Naka-sensei’s deshis, between 2016 and 2021.

Alexander teaches traditional Japanese Rope Bondage, Kinbaku, in Berlin and across Europe, he does photo sessions, performs and is a founder and editor in chief of Kinbaku Society of Berlin Magazine.
