After all these years behind the camera, I am still searching for the same thing: not simply a beautiful photograph, but something genuine in the person in front of me.

How would you like
to see yourself?
A Kinbaku photoshoot brings together the aesthetics of Japanese rope and fine art portraiture to create something deeply personal. It is an opportunity to step outside the familiar, explore how you want to be seen and create photographs that capture something of who you are at this moment in your life.
See yourself differently
A strong portrait can reveal something you don't normally see in the mirror. Rope, posture and light can bring forward expressions of strength, vulnerability, sensuality or beauty that you may not usually recognise in yourself. This “I didn't know I could look like that” response is something people often describe after artistic portrait sessions.
Do something daring
Give yourself an experience outside your everyday life. Being tied and photographed can feel exciting, vulnerable, sensual, playful or simply a little audacious. You don't need to wait until you feel more confident, younger, fitter or somehow more ready. This is about celebrating who you are now.
Look extraordinary without knowing how to pose
You don't need modelling or Kinbaku experience. Alexander guides the rope, your position and movement while composing the light and image, leaving you free to enjoy the experience rather than perform for the camera.
Experience the aesthetics of Kinbaku
Discover the beauty of Japanese rope through your own body. Rope, texture, movement and dramatic light come together to create images where Kinbaku and your own expression become part of the same visual story.
Create a beautiful memory for your future self
Your body and your relationship with it will change. These photographs preserve something of who you are now. Years from now, you may look back and see yourself very differently from how you see yourself today.

Why choose a shooting with Alexander?
Alexander brings more than thirty years behind the camera and over fifteen years of Kinbaku practice into a single artistic process. As both rigger and photographer, he creates the rope, directs the body and composes the image as one visual language rather than treating the bondage as decoration added to a portrait.
His photographic vision has been deeply influenced by Japanese aesthetics and shaped by six years of studying Kinbaku photography with Norio Sugiura. His distinctive use of low key, high contrast light draws attention to the person in the ropes rather than the ropes themselves.
Throughout the shoot, Alexander guides you through the entire process, balancing artistic ambition with careful attention to your comfort, boundaries and physical safety.
We rarely know, in the present, how beautiful this version of ourselves will look to us in retrospect.
Questions & Answers
Do I need any modelling or Kinbaku experience?
Not at all. You don't need to know how to pose or have been tied before. Alexander guides you through the rope, movement and positioning throughout the shoot.
What should I wear?
That depends on the images you would like to create. Elegant clothing, lingerie, simple fabrics or artistic semi nude portraits can all work beautifully with Kinbaku. We are happy to explore wardrobe ideas with you beforehand.
Can I bring my own ideas?
Absolutely. You are welcome to bring references, ideas or a particular atmosphere you would like to explore. Alexander will develop these with you while taking responsibility for the overall artistic direction and creating a coherent series of images.
Are nude photographs possible?
Yes, if they are part of what you would like to create. Nudity is never expected or required, and some of the strongest Kinbaku portraits can be created fully clothed.
What happens to my photographs afterwards?
Before the shoot, we agree clearly how your photographs may be used. Nothing is published without your agreement. Personal use, portfolio use and any publication rights are discussed individually, so you know exactly where your images may appear.
Still curious?
How long does a photoshoot take? How many photographs will I receive? Can I bring my partner or a friend? Can we shoot outdoors? Will anyone else be present? Can I order fine art prints?
Just ask.
Alexander is an artist, internationally recognised Kinbaku educator and Aikido black belt. His lifelong fascination with Japanese culture and decades of martial arts practice shape his approach to movement, presence, touch and connection.
I did the shoot for my 40th birthday, mostly as a present to myself. I wanted beautiful pictures of my body now, before I find another reason why I should wait. I am so happy I did it. I think when I am 70 I will look at these photographs and smile.
I came with some ideas but what we created was completely different and much better. I loved how Alexander combined the ropes with the light and how he worked with my body rather than making me pose all the time. The photographs look like art but somehow still feel like me.
I wanted to do something like this for years but was always a little too scared 🙂 The whole afternoon felt like an adventure, but at the same time I felt very safe and taken care of. The pictures are beautiful and much more “me” than I expected.
I am really not comfortable in front of a camera and normally don't like pictures of myself. Alexander somehow made me forget about posing and just be there. When I saw the photographs I honestly couldn't believe this was me. I have never seen myself like this before.
